Hunter Classes

Hunting Positions

If you would like to gain a better understanding of how to effectively, efficiently, and accurately use your hunting gear in realistic applications, then the Hunting Positions course is the choice for you.

These classes are run in a single day format with 8-12 participants.

This class will focus on efficiently building improvised shooting positions with the gear you actually hunt with. You will explore different techniques for varying shot angles and terrain features, and how to use natural terrain to your advantage to build stable shooting rests. The standardized performance tracking system we use focuses primarily on first round accuracy, while still emphasizing the importance of efficiency (speed).

Gear selection and usage is a key aspect of this course; optic choices, what is necessary, what is not, projectile behavior at distance, inherent hindrances of certain pieces of gear, cost/benefit analysis, and so forth.

Targets are 12”x12” steel plates (which is roughly the size of the vital zone on most big game animals), and will range from 100-500 yards.

These courses are held at the Cameo Shooting and Education Complex at a reduced rate of $150 per person, and any currently scheduled classes can be seen below. I would be happy to travel to you as well!

*In the case of a parent and their child/children (under 18) taking the course together, there will be a 15% discount from the entry cost of each youth shooter.

*Members of the Ultimate Hunter Rifle Competition receive an additional discount. Contact me to make arrangements.

 Testimonials

AG&AG National Conference “Hunting Positions” class testimonials:

“Great class! I got some excellent advice on body position, information on using my scope…I’m excited to go to a couple of Ultimate Hunter shoots this summer!!!”

“This class was awesome! I had done a little long distance and did the precision rifle (class) last year, but this was different…Austin was so patient as I was getting set up and gave great tips on how to get into position as I was pretty clueless. I was able to hit all targets with his guidance and would love to do this again to learn more!”

“I did this class last year and came back for another round! I love shooting those long distances, finding the target, finding (a) natural rest! It was great…I had a bit of trouble with my rifle and Austin generously let me shoot his! He is definitely ready to do whatever it takes to help you find success!”

“Not taking the rain, hail, and lightening into account on my review….it was great! This was another class that I was really looking forward to, and Austin didn’t fail….only the weather did…This class did not let me down! It was so much fun, the little bit that we got to be out there anyway. Unfortunately, the rain/hail/lightning started and caused us to pack up quickly and make a run for it to the truck and back to base where we chatted about it the rest of the class time. Austin was a pro and went with the punches and stuck it out with us even though he couldn’t finish class with us. He was very professional and offered so much insight and education, which I know we all appreciated. While our class was cut VERY short, not one of us complained with the experience we were able to get on the cliffs. Great job Austin, I hope to be able to compete in this one day!!”

“I think all 3 of us were intimated when we first came to this session.  But Austin was so patient and helpful and just happy to be able to share this competition with us. This was the session in the hail, so our shooting was cut short, but all 3 of us were able to set up and shoot 100 yds, 230 yards, and 420 yards. It was a great session, and I would like to compete.  Will be working trying to find a place in Texas for Austin to set up. Maybe AG & AG Legacy can make it happen some day.”

 Hunting Ballistics

If you would like to gain a better understanding of your hunting ammunition and gear, and how to effectively use it in realistic applications, then the Hunting Ballistics course is the choice for you.

This class focuses on acquiring and understanding ballistic data, and how to best apply it with your specific gear loadout.

These classes are run in a single day format with 8-10 participants.

Whether your scope has adjustable turrets (Mil/MRAD, MOA, yards, etc.), a reticle featuring drop compensation marks, or is non-adjustable with plain crosshair; we will gather data with your chosen ammunition to develop a “cheat sheet” and an understanding of how to effectively use your setup at various distances.

These courses are held at the Cameo Shooting and Education Complex at a reduced rate of $150 per person, and any currently scheduled classes can be seen below. I would be happy to travel to you as well!
